I got a person out of jail, negotiated with prosecution and got all charges dismissed. The case is closed. Guess what was the first thing my client said when we left the court room? Not "thank you for your job, counsel". He said that he is not going to pay me the remainder of my fees, because there will be no more court hearings.
Very disappointing.

Tell him you won't be able to defend him again should he find himself in jail again if he doesn't pay.

I don't think so. This is an issue with an immigration law - most clients need a lawyer only once.
