Если кому-то актуально: американские посольства в Канаде на лето закрыли опцию получения/продления виз гражданами третьих стран. То есть, сьездить по-быстрому за штампом студенческой или какой другой визы не получится.

DOS Alert: Overall Movement of Cut-off Dates for Diversity Visas (FY2014)
AILA Liaison practice alert informs members that many more applicants registered for DV-2014 are pursuing their cases for visa issuance than in years past. This increased response is resulting in greater visa number use by those with lower rank numbers and slower forward movement of the cut-offs.

In response to member queries regarding the Visa Office’s overall movement of the Diversity Visa category for Fiscal Year 2014 (DV-2014), the AILA DOS Liaison Committee reached out to the Department of State (DOS). DOS reminded AILA that the September 2013 Visa Bulletin stated that approximately 140,660 applicants were registered for the 50,000 permanent resident visas available for DV-2014. (AILA Doc. No. 13081312). Historically, many of those selected for the diversity visa have not pursued their cases to visa issuance. DV-2014 applicants have responded at a much higher rate than in previous years, resulting in greater visa number use by those with lower rank numbers and slower forward movement of the cut-off dates.

Registration for DV-2014 does not guarantee that a visa number will be available for the applicant’s case. Monthly rank cut-offs are based on a comparison of numbers available for use during that month versus the amount of applicant demand for such numbers. If there is a significant amount of demand by applicants with lower rank numbers, than the rank cut-offs will advance at a slower pace. If applicant demand is low, or the refusal/no-show rate is high, then the Visa Office will increase the “pool” of potential applicants by moving the cut-off at a faster pace. DOS stated that the May 2014 Visa Bulletin indicates that DV issuances for FY2014 are on par with the number of Diversity Visas issued for the DV-2013 in the same time period.
